Nellie McClung School’s next casino is OCTOBER 29 & 30th 2016.

Nellie PAC provides casino volunteers to raise funds every 1 ½ -2 years, and we really need your help! Over the 2 days, we need up to 40 volunteers.  Together we raise over $65,000 for our school. This is  a huge help to our school whose budget from the CBE only cover the minimum costs of operating a school. Sign up HERE!

What difference does it make? Why should I help out with the casino?

This is the biggest fund-raiser for our school. The School Council / PAC puts all of the proceeds towards many extra things that our students, from Kindergarten to Grade 6, get to take advantage of:

  • Classroom materials (science kits, resource material, teacher’s stipend and more)
  • Music instruments and equipment
  • Gym & recess gear (balls, skipping ropes, indoor climbing wall & more)
  • Lego Robotics
  • Artist-in-Residence & drama programs
  • Library books and materials (we contribute every year to keep our library material engaging and up to date)
  • Computers and technology lab (schools laptops, ipads and smartboards are supported by donations from PAC)
  • The playground …and so much more!

Ask your child’s teacher what a difference these resources make. It is truly remarkable.

Has your child had a wonderful experience on a field trip at Nellie McClung? When it comes to field trips, you might not know that your school fees in September weren’t enough to cover all of the costs…Casino dollars did. Simply put, the impact is amazing.

But I’ve never helped with a Casino…it sounds a little intimidating!

We are not dealing cards or managing casino games…we are at the counters managing the behind-the-scenes work.  You do not need any experience.  Ask anyone who’s helped out before and they’ll tell you…it’s not hard or scary!  The advisors who work with our school teach us everything you need to know, right there on the spot.

But aren’t there so many other parents out there who can help?

That’s probably what everyone is thinking…but we need you! If your child is in Kindergarten or in the early grades, you can help lay the foundation for a great education! If your child is in Grade 6 and this is your last year, leave a great legacy and help out like all the parents before you did!

We will need at least 40 volunteers over two days to make our casino successful.

We know our parents are busy–we’re in your shoes! In the past, we have welcomed the help of aunts, uncles and grand-parents who have stepped in for our busy parents…perhaps there’s someone like that in your family who would like to help out? The shifts are day-time or evening, approximately 8hrs long. If you can help with just one shift, you alone raise more than $2000.

We recognize all our casino volunteers as Nellie Community Heroes.

Let’s do it for the kids…they’re worth it!!!

2021 ASCA Resolutions – HAVE YOUR SAY

2021 ASCA Resolutions – HAVE YOUR SAY

This year’s AGM will be held on April 25, 2021 (online). I am unable to attend this year’s virtual meeting but have arranged for another school to take our votes by proxy. As a result, we need to submit our votes on the proposed resolutions by April 23 at 8am.

Any interested Nellie parent is invited to vote on the resolutions. I will tally the votes and compile a position for our school.

To have your say in this year’s online votes:

STEP 1) Review the resolutions in full through this link: 2021 Resolution Package:

STEP 2) Cast your vote though this google form by April 23, 8am.

The resolutions are voted on as is, with a yes or no vote. After you have reviewed the resolutions, please complete the google forms below and I will compile and submit our votes based on the majority for each resolution.

I realize this is a substantial amount of content for interested parents to review. As your representative on PAC I am working toward having a dedicated council meeting in the future to discuss these resolutions at length each year in March when they come out. In lieu of that, this year I would like to share a resource document from a non-partisan, non-profit public education advocacy group fighting for the rights of all children to an equitable and accessible public education system. Although not affiliated with SOS, I and the chair of your Nellie PAC are in agreement with this voting guide for your consideration.

Thank you for your participation. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
